The Power of Being Over Doing

Helping individuals and businesses unlock their potential and accomplish their goals is a great way to find purpose in your work. Coaching is an amazing career choice that can not only have a profound impact on others, but can also positively impact your life too.
The Natural State of Being
Think of a fish. A fish doesn’t try to swim—it just swims. A monkey doesn’t try to climb—it simply
climbs. The sun doesn’t try to shine, and babies don’t try to giggle or cry. They do it
automatically because that’s who they are. And once you become the person you want to be,
there’s no more trying; there’s just being.
The Journey Begins in the Mind
Becoming starts with a decision—a conscious choice about who you are, who you want to be,
and who you’re becoming. For me, it begins with visualization. I create a clear mental picture of
the person I want to be. How does that person move? How do they speak and act? Once that
image is solid, I reaffirm it repeatedly in my mind. The key here is that it’s not about doing things
to become that person. It’s about embodying that person so fully that the actions naturally follow.
Take this example: I can do the dishes or vacuum the house as tasks. But if I become a person
who has a clean house—someone who genuinely loves and values a tidy space—my actions
shift. I don’t need to debate whether to put my shoes away or tidy up after myself. I simply do it
because I am that person. There’s no longer a conscious decision; it’s automatic because I’ve
become what I set out to be.
From Doing to Being
When you move from doing to being, you remove the internal struggle and the “should I or
shouldn’t I?” questions. Instead, you exist in a state where you act without thinking about it. You
become kind, strong, determined, or whatever aligns with your vision of yourself. Once you truly
become, trying is no longer necessary.
How to Start
If you ever find yourself pushing through tasks with little motivation, pause for a moment. Ask
yourself: Who am I becoming? What kind of person would naturally do these things without
hesitation? Step into that identity. Visualize it. Decide it. Reaffirm it in your mind until there’s no
need for trying—you are simply being.
Final Thoughts
Remember, it’s not about the doing; it’s about the being. The real gold lies in who you become
because, once you’ve reached that state, everything else falls into place effortlessly
